THERE IS BEAUTY YET (2014)
This series is my personal response to a visit to the Lahore fort, once a thriving Mughal palace complex, built of materials such as sandstone, marble and brick. Over the years there have been efforts to restore the structure and there are areas of beauty in the structure. However, there are also areas of exposed brickwork and plaster that has peeled away.
I used my earlier approach of staining and reclaiming layers to build up layers with oil and gesso, echoing the layering and peeling of paint at the fort. By creating multilayered works with vibrant colours, I wanted to restore a sense of vitality from the past and hope for the future.
